Sharon Marie Lyke of Drummond Island was a 26-year school bus driver on Drummond for students of the DeTour Area Schools District. For several years, she also owned and operated Lyke's Marina on Drummond Island. Mrs. Lyke was 65 when she died Friday, March 9, 2007, at her home.
She was born November 17, 1941, in Ann Arbor to Frank Thomas and Virginia Mary Margaret (nee Connor) Dolan.
She grew up in Ann Arbor, and moved to Drummond Island in the mid 1960s. There, she was a member of the Drummond Island Lutheran Church, the Drummond Island Ambulance Corps, and the Drummond Island Homemakers.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and attending DeTour High School basketball games.
Mrs. Lyke is survived by her husband, Kenneth, whom she married November 14, 1959; a daughter and her family, Kim and Charles Bosley of Drummond Island; two sons and their families, Steven and Tammy Lyke of Newark, Ohio, and Eric and Sherry Lyke of Albuquerque, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Krystal Bosley, Josh Bosley, Nancy Lyke, Kyle Lyke, and Shawn Lyke, and eight siblings and their families, Jim and Mary Ellen Dolan, John and Nancy Dolan, Belinda and David Nichols, Barb and Mike Taitt, Cheryl and Michael Mitchell, LaVere Walker "Tex" and Clair Oxenrider, Velma and Mike Hayden, and Laura Connor.
Mrs. Lyke was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Tom Dolan.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Drummond Island Lutheran Church. The funeral will also be Thursday, at the church at 1 p.m. Deacon Charles Krahnke will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the Drummond Island Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Drummond Island Ambulance Corps or the Drummond Island Medical Clinic.
Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
