Trojans Team, Coach Selected Number One in Class D Cedarville (19-0) was selected Team of the Year and Coach David Duncan was named Coach of the Year in Class D for the second consecutive season during the 57th Annual Boys Basketball Meeting of the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association in Manistique Wednesday, March 7. Area Players Selected Area players selected to the prestigious squad included senior Rob Guimond of Sault Ste. Marie to the All-Class Dream Team, senior Dan Olsen of St. Ignace to the Class AB C, and senior David Derusha of Engadine and junior Jordan Duncan of Cedarville to the Class D First Teams. Selected to the second team were senior Jake Weiss of St. Ignace and junior Craig Wallis of Rudyard in Class A-B-C, and senior Justin Baker of Cedarville in Class D. Special mention honors went to seniors Stefen Albright of Engadine, Jordan Sweeney of Cedarville, and Allan Mergener of Newberry, while senior Matt Hansen and junior Jason Duncan of Cedarville and senior Craig Wasnich of DeTour received honorable mention. All-Class Dream Team Joining Guimond on the All- Class Dream Team were senior Greg Peterson, of Houghton, the Class A-B-C Player of the Year, sophomore Joe Simon of Marquette, senior Justin Groeneveld of Kingsford, and senior Matt Roell of North Dickinson. Class A-B-C-D First Teams Seniors Jordan Young of Escanaba and Matt Sunderg of Westwood and juniors Taylor Brule and Travis Swanson of Negaunee joined Olsen on the Class A-B-C First Team, and senior Bryan LaChapelle, of Crystal Falls-Forest Park, Class D Player of the Year, senior Eric Hawley of Ontonagon, and junior Brian Aimsback of Watersmeet on the Class D First Team. Team, Coaches of the Year The Escanaba Eskymos, 13-7, were named Class A-B Team of the Year and Houghton, 18-2, topped Class C. Jason Carter of Houghton was named Class A-B-C Coach of the Year and Doug Ingalls of St. Ignace received special mention. |
