Workshops Offer Tax Information for Forest Owners May 15, 16, 17 Forest owners interested in active sustainable forest management and reducing their property tax burden may attend workshops designed to explain Michigan's new Qualified Forest Property Program, to be held in Houghton Tuesday, May 15, in Escanaba Wednesday, May 16, and in Sault Ste. Marie Thursday, May 17. Forest owners with at least 20 acres of forest land, and meeting other eligibility requirements, can apply for an exemption of school operating expense millage. The sessions will be conducted by Dr. Karen Potter-Witter, a forestry professor and extension specialist for Michigan State University. The workshops will define who is eligible, and point out program requirements, forest owner responsibilities, and review the application process. The program costs $15 per person.
