More than 500 people attended this year's Super Saturday Children's Celebration Fair Saturday, May 5, at Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace.

The event featured 30 booths with "handson" activities for youth, along with parenting information. The activities included a bike rodeo, crafts and balloons, child safety information, jewelry making, information on speech and hearing development, pet care, gardening projects, friendship bracelets, 4-H exhibits, book giveaways, games, and a cake walk.

Winners of bicycles provided by the Masonic Lodge were Missy Wyers and Chase DeKeyser.

"The entire community has really embraced this event, by either making a donation or by having a booth," said George Ford, chairperson of the event.

The free fair is co-sponsored through MSU Extension's 4-H Youth Program, 4-H Council and the Great Start Program through the EUP Intermediate School District. This is the second year in which they have combined the 4-H event, Super Saturday, with the Great Start's Early Childhood Fair, and by combining efforts, organizers were able to reach out to a greater audience and share resources, said Joyce Belonga of MSU Extension.

The event was supported by donations by the Masonic Lodge, Mackinac Animal Aid Association, and Glen's Market, Lions Club, Project DARE, Moose Lodge 999, Kiwanis Club, Glen's Market, Griffin Beverage, Little Bear East Arena, First National Bank, McDonalds, and Mackinac Fish Market.
