Great Waters Tourism Workshops To Be Held May 30-31 in the U.P.

Marketing materials for the new Great Waters tourist plan will be explained to business owners at two workshops to be held in Sault Ste. Marie May 30 and Newberry May 31. Promotion strategy, marketing tools, and printed materials will be presented, and participants will also receive training in hospitality and service.

Concepts will include fostering repeat business, identifying and meeting customer needs, creating travel itineraries for customers, and marketing.

The program costs $25 and will include an 88-page trail guide, four Great Waters trails posters, access to the Great Waters Web site, a set of 100 tear-off maps for customers, and lunch.

Great Waters is the promotional name adopted for the region by the Eastern Upper Peninsula Nature Tourism Alliance. The name describes the region's position in the center of three of the Great Lakes. Four Great Waters trails highlight points of interest along lakes Huron, Michigan, and Superior.

The Sault Ste. Marie session will be in the Ontario Room at Kewadin Casinos and the Newberry session will be at the Best Western. Both will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Register by Monday, May 28, by calling Michelle Walk at the Extension office in St. Ignace at 643-7307.
