Leon Patterson Former Hudson Township Supervisor Leon C. Patterson formerly worked in the Lower Peninsula as a heavy equipment operator during the construction season, and also at the former Browning Shingle Mill in Garnet for several years until his retirement. A lifelong Garnet resident, Mr. Patterson died at the age of 89 Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007, at his residence. He was born July 2, 1917, in Garnet, to the late Fay and Beaulis (nee Browning) Patterson. He was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and was an active member of McMillan Lodge 440 Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the Ahmed Temple and Accepted Scottish Rite Consistory of Marquette. Mr. Patterson was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Naubinway, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Mr. Patterson is survived by his two children and their families, Barbara Rivard and Calvin and Sally Patterson, all of Gladstone; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and four siblings, Alveda Terrian of Gulliver, Leatha Vallier of Manistique, Don Goudreau of Trout Lake, and Alvin Williams of Sault Ste. Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mae, a brother, John, and his grandson, Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, May 8, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Naubinway. Father Tim Hruska officiated. AMasonic memorial service was conducted by the members of Mc- Millan Lodge 400 at the church, before the mass. Visitation was also Tuesday. The Rite of Committal will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Rexton. Memorial donations can be made to the Masonic Home of Michigan, 1200 Wright Avenue, Alma, Michigan 48801, in memory of Leon C. Patterson. Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry assisted the family with arrangements. |
