Elizabeth 'Betty' Koorn
Elizabeth "Betty" Koorn, age 95, of Rudyard, was a former dairy farmer who maintained a dairy farm with her husband in Fibre.

Mrs. Koorn died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.

She was born March 3, 1912, in Den Over, Netherlands, to Martinus and Nellie (nee Minnes) Lont. She grew up in the Netherlands, and married Jan Koorn March 21, 1946, in Den Over.

In April 1950, they moved to Wooster, Ohio, where they were dairy farmers, and in 1964, they moved to Fibre, where they continued their dairy farming operation.

Mrs. Koorn was a member of the Wayside Mennonite Church. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, and she loved flowers.

She is survived by four sons and their families, Case and Peggy Koorn of Columbus, Indiana, Tinus and Bobbie Koorn of Falmouth, Dick Koorn of Rudyard, and John and Roxanne Koorn of Mishawaka, Indiana; six grandchildren, Amy Koorn, Emily Koorn, Adam Koorn, Michael Koorn, Mandalyne and Shaun Beerens, and John Paul and Sara Koorn; two great-grandchildren, Eva and Zachary Koorn, and one brother, John Lont, who still lives in the Netherlands.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jan in 1997, one brother, Simon Lont, and one sister, Gertrude Gorter.

Visitation was Monday, May 7, and Tuesday, May 8, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford.

Services were Tuesday, May 8, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home. Pastor Ron Swartz officiated.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
