Peg Smith of Mackinaw City was recognized for years of service to the community Thursday, May 3, both at the Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce Annual Breakfast and at a village council meeting later that evening.
A former member of the village planning commission, Mrs. Smith has been an area businesswoman, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Mackinaw City Historical Society, the West Side Association, and the Mackinaw Woman's Club. She has also served as an ambassador to the village, participates in the village Memorial Day Parade and fish fry, and has volunteered for many other village functions.
The village proclamation calls volunteerism a major component in community pride, citing Mrs. Smith as part of the reason Mackinaw City has been able to thrive.
"Individuals who make this commitment to their community cannot be thanked or recognized enough," said Village President Robert Heilman.
