St. Ignace Wins Kiwanis Track Titles

The St. Ignace boys and girls track and field teams outlasted nine opponents to capture the championship of the 22nd annual St. Ignace Kiwanis Track and Field Invitational Friday, May 4, in St. Ignace.
The invitational was represented by five conferences, the Straits Area, Eastern Upper Peninsula, Northern Lights League, Mid Peninsula, and Ski Valley.
The Saints boys team tallied 107 points, followed by Munising with 92, Manistique 89, Newberry 79, Cedarville 57, Inland Lakes 51, Rogers City 36, Rudyard 17, DeTour 4, and Mackinac Island 0.
The Saints girls team totaled 99 points, followed by Manistique with 87, Inland Lakes 70, Newberry 68, Cedarville 65, Munising 53, Rudyard 40, Rogers City 27, Mackinac Island 14, and DeTour 12.

Saints boys results: Mario Calcaterra - first in the low hurdles (42.47 seconds), and the long jump (18'7"); Derrick Clark - first in high hurdles (16.43), second in the pole vault, and third in the shot put; Jake Weiss - first in the high jump (5'6"); Jesse Becker - second in the 100-meter dash; Shawn Cowell - third in the pole vault; Ben Matelski - third in the long jump; Anthony Lester - fourth in the high jump; Shane Spring - fifth in the high and low hurdles.
The Saints' 800-meter relay team of Jesse Becker, Anthony Lester, Kyle Smock, and Derrick Clark won with a time of 1:38.56. The 1600-meter relay team of Ben Matelski, Nick Montie, Kyle Smock, and Mario Calcaterra took second. The 400-meter relay foursome of Jesse Becker, Kyle Smock, Steffan Saffian, and Anthony Lester took fourth.
Saints girls results: Kelsey Cryderman - first in the 200-meter dash (27.16); Caysey Brown - first in the long jump (13'10.5"); Jaimee Bloxsom - first in the pole vault (8'6"); Kayla Gustin - third in the high hurdles and fifth in the low hurdles; Chelsea Bosley - third in the shot put; Chelsea Swope - fourth in the 3200-meter run; Erica Ahlich - fourth in the pole vault; Christi Therrian - fifth in the shot put; Samantha Radecki - sixth in the long jump; Paige Paul - sixth in the 3200-meter run; Stacy Goldthorpe - sixth in the 1600-meter run.

The 400-meter relay team of Dani Ford, Caysey Brown, Kelsey Cryderman, and Samantha Radecki placed first with a time of 1:03.34. The foursome also took first in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:56.13. The 3200-meter relay of Dani Ford, Kristen Olsen, Chelsea Swope, and Erica Ahlich took first with a time of 11:12.51.
The 1600-meter relay group of Kristen Olsen, Dani Ford, Samantha Radecki, and Stacee Schnicke placed fifth.
Cedarville girls results: Billie McLeod - first in the low hurdles (51.4); Ashley Sweeney - third in the 800- and 1600-meter runs; Katie Bowlby - third in the long jump and fifth in the 800; Emily Feldhake - fourth in the discus; Caitlin Wright - fifth in the 400- meter run; Kristen Duman - fourth in the high hurdles; Kara Griffin - fourth in the 3200-meter run; Rebecca Bickham - sixth in the pole vault; Jessie Duncan - sixth in the 400; Megan Hill - sixth in the high hurdles; Lindsay McLeod - sixth in the high jump.

The Trojans 1600 relay team of Lindsay McLeod, Katie Bowlby, Caitlin Wright, and Billie McLeod recorded a season best time of 4:35.3 to record the victory. The 3200-mtere relay team finished second. The 400-meter relay team took fourth.
Cedarville boys results: Justin Baker - second in the high and low hurdles; Clayton Meyers - second in the 800-meter run; C.J. Paquin - fourth in the 200-meter run and long jump; Peter Treleaven - fourth in the 400. Kevin Thompson - fifth in the pole vault; Sheldon Tassier - fifth in the 1600; Jordan Sweeney - fifth in the 800- and 1600-meter run; Kevin Thompson - sixth in the high jump.
The Trojans' 800-meter relay team took third, and the 3200- relay group took fourth, while the 400- and 1600-meter relay teams placed fifth.
Rudyard girls results: Allyson Markstrom - first in the high hurdles (17.31); Brittany Hoolsema - first in the 800-meter dash (2:43.75); Alicia Thompson - second in the pole vault; Courtney Fowler - fourth in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter dash.
The 400-relay team took third place, while the 1600-meter relay foursome placed sixth.
Rudyard boys results: Karl DeWitt - first in the high jump (5'6"); Isiah Otten - second in the 1600-meter run and third in the 3200-meter run; Brady Burby - fifth in the shot put.
Mackinac Island girls results: Michi Mullings - second in the long jump, fourth in the 100-meter dash, and sixth in the 200-meter dash.

The Lakers' 400-meter relay team took sixth place.
DeTour girls results: Nicole Melcer - third in the low hurdles; Liz Lehman - fourth in the low hurdles.
The Raiders' 400-meter relay team took fifth.
DeTour boys results: Teryn Miller - fifth in the 3200-meter run; Max Peterson - fifth in the 3200-meter run.
