Saints Boys Win Newberry Quadrangular Track Meet

St. Ignace boys track and field team finished first and the girls team placed second during the Newberry quadrangular track meet Thursday, April 26.

The Saints tallied 90 points during the meet, followed by the host Indians with 63, Rudyard 52, and Gwinn 25.

The Gwinn Modeltowners won the girls meet with score of 78.50, while St. Ignace took second with 69, Newberry 66, and Rudyard 21.50.

Boys Results:

Mario Calcaterra - took first in the the low hurdles (44.94 seconds) and long jump (18'9.75").

Shane Spring - first in high hurdles (18.44), third in the low hurdles, and fourth in the 1600-meter run.

Shawn Cowell - first in pole vault (10'0").

Jake Weiss - first in the high jump (5'8").

Derrick Clark - second in the high hurdles and pole vault.

Allan Honeycutt - second in the 3200-meter run.

Evan Everson - second in the 400-meter dash.

Gerrit Mortensen - third in the high jump and 400-meter dash.

Ben Matelski - third in the long jump and 400-meter dash.

Kaiden Shiemke - fourth in the 800-meter dash.

Kyle Smock - fifth in the 100- meter dash.

The Saints 3200-meter relay team won with a time of 9:24.85, while the 800-meter foursome won in 1:42.46, and the 1600-meter relay team finished first in 3:56.59. The 400-meter relay team took second.

Girls Results:

Kayla Gustin - first in the high hurdles (18.66), third in the low hurdles.

Christi Therrian - first in shot put (28'11"), fourth in the discus.

Kelsey Cryderman - first in the 400-meter dash (1:08.20).

Sarah Tafelski - second in the 3200-meter run.

Chelsea Bosley - second in the shot put, third in the discus.

Kelli Jo Marshall and Jaimee Bloxsom - tied for second in the pole vault.

Kristen Olsen - third in the 1600- meter run.

Paige Paul - fifth in the 1600- meter run.
