Brevort
By Lois Movalson 292-5581

A nice rain fell in the wee hours of Monday morning, and now the sun is shining brightly. Bob Jarzynka's spring flowers are blooming profusely in all colors of the rainbow, as are Joanie Spencer's tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths.

Candy Humphrey, with her daughter, Jessica, and son, Matt, visited with Mark and Joan Spencer last week. Candy and Jessica have been planting annuals, and Matt went turkey hunting with Grandpa Mark at Waters. Joan didn't see any feathers when they came home. Jim Rose also did some turkey hunting near Interlochen, and no turkey was brought to that home, either.

Dave Kunze of St. Ignace motored out to the village on his Harley and brought exciting news: He and Mary Sue are new grandparents. Shelley and Tyler Davis of Royal Oak had a baby boy, Corvin John Davis, who was born Thursday, May 10, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Guess who the attending nurse was, Jodi (nee Garcia) Roth, formerly of Pte. Aux Chenes, who was a childhood friend of Shelley and Sara Kunze. Congratulations to all.

Crystal Giordani was graduated with high distinction Friday, May 11, from North Central Michigan College in Petoskey. Crystal has accepted a position as health unit coordinator in the cardiovascular unit at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Family and friends enjoyed a graduation party for Crystal at the Giordani home in Brevort last weekend.

Mike, Lara, Kristi, and Morgan Gustafson hosted a Mother's Day cookout at their home. Guests were Tom and Joyce Gustafson, Sharon and Kenny Smith, Pega and John Kennedy, and Denny and June White.

The hummingbirds are about. Brian Rose reports they're at the feeders at Jeannie's Reach, and as I was writing this Monday morning, they arrived at our feeder. I noticed a small brown bird Sunday flitting around the lilac trees, singing its little heart out. I had not seen this particular bird before. The bird book suggests it's a house wren, or maybe a brown wren. Either way, it is more than welcome, as it has the loveliest song.

Dave and I joined Dick and Jean Bentley for Mother's Day dinner out, and then took a tour through Wilderness State Park near Mackinaw City. (I could count the number of campers on one hand.)

Jack Shepard says there is an abundance of ticks this year, so check your pets. Tracy Movalson, who is living in Iola, Wisconsin, says she is continually picking ticks off of Chippy, even though he has had all of the available precautions for tick control.

Brenda and Mark Spencer journeyed to Redford to spend the weekend with their son, Mark, and his wife, Terra.

Saturday evening guests at the home of Kenny and Sharon Smith were Ken and Kathleen Smith and their daughters, Holly and Allison, of St. Ignace. Sharon received calls from all of her children, as did many of us moms here in Brevort.

Happy birthday to Tom Gustafson May 16.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Harry Atwell Wednesday, April 25. He had been in an assisted living apartment in Southfield. The last time we talked to Harry, he said he liked it there and that the food was good. He had been hospitalized for a couple of weeks, then was in the nursing section of the home, where he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Everyone who knew Harry liked him. He will be missed.
