DeTour Area
By Barbara Buschbacher 297-8075 bbann@sault.com

In the middle of May, we are caught up with yard work and spring cleaning. Some put off planting a garden until after Memorial Day weekend, and it might be wise to do so, as the temperatures have been somewhat on the cool side.

What a busy weekend it was in DeTour. Mothers were treated to meals at the local restaurants, and also were treated to a performance of "Dear Edwina Jr." at the school, a Kids Café After School Program directed by David Rhinard. The cast members performed wonderfully on a professional level.

Cast members (and their ages) included Amber Mandrell, 10, as Edwina, Alexis Scott, 10, Millie Reed, 9, Tyler Soule 8, Jack Dudeck, 8, Scott Bosley, 7, Joshua Stocking, 10, Cameron Livingston, 8, Moriah Reed, 7, Lauren Goetz, 10, Mihayla Scott, 8, Alyssa Wilson, 10, Chase Livingston, 15, Laci Smith, 11, Julie Reed, 12, Kaalin Goetz Crawford 8, Emily Bosley, 10, Hannah Stocking, 8, and Skylar Pardee, 8. For a few of the cast members, it was the first time being in a musical production, while others had appeared in "School House Rock Jr." and "Annie, Jr." Congratulations to the cast for a job well done.

Mr. Rhinard has directed more than 200 plays and musicals. Music Director Jean Bloom is a retired DeTour Area Schools employee. She is a church organist, piano instructor, and the director of the DeTour Community Choir. Producer Patti Soule also was assistant stage manager. Set designers were Sheila Crawford and Sara Stec, costume designer was Darlene Skinner, and stage manager was Susie Rhinard.

Wednesday, May 16, is the annual Fine Arts Fair in the school. This is the time students are able to show their talents in art, woodworking, sculptures, and science inventions.

A thought: Many of the things worth doing in this world were declared impossible before they were done.
