Gordon Foods Ground Beef Recalled

Consumers are urged to be sure ground beef is cooked thoroughly in the face of an ongoing food safety recall that was announced Friday evening, May 11.

Ground beef patties that have been cooked thoroughly, at 160 degrees Fahrenheit, and are gray all the way through, are safe to eat, reported Leslie Askwith of the Chippewa County Health Department Monday, May 14.

A recall of ground beef and tenderized steak products distributed by Davis Creek Meats and Seafoods of Kalamazoo has been in effect since May 11. The company sells food exclusively to Gordon Food Service.

Gordon Food Service sells products to retail food stores, food service establishments, and the general public through GFS Marketplace stores.

The Michigan Department of Education and the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) have been working to conduct recall audit checks at GFS Marketplace stores and to develop a strategy for conducting recall audit checks of establishments that received these products.
