City Marina To Reopen May 21

The St. Ignace City Marina will open for the summer Monday, May 21.

Although dredging equipment is currently moored at the marina, no dredging will be needed this year, said marina director Eugene Elmer, as the water is the same depth as it was at this time last year. Dredging is underway at the U.S. Coast Guard dock.

The marina will be the site for the Viking Marine regatta from July 25 to July 27. The regatta could bring in more than 50 boats to the marina, which has 100 transient slips and 40 seasonal slips. The marina will also harbor some of Mackinac Island's overflow of yachts from the annual Chicago to Mackinac race July 14.

Mr. Elmer said the marina will open with a staff of three people until just before the annual Antique Auto Show at the end of June. In peak season, the marina will have a staff of 12 people.
