A graduation ceremony for Mackinac Island preschoolers will be held in the school library at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, with a school board meeting to follow at 7:30 p.m. The preschool class, taught by Jody Barna, will also recite the Pledge of Allegiance to begin the school board meeting.

The class has 12 students, the largest class in the school, which has an enrollment of 69 students in grades k-12 this year. It includes John Andress, Dominic Morse, Dylan Szabo, McCade Ferguson, Fern Clark, Brooke Dziobak, Aaron Riggs, Ava Sehoyan, Leon Sehoyan, T.J. Bagbey, Ella Cowell, and Harrison Myers.

The preschool program is for ages three and four and is coordinated through the Chippewa-Luce- Mackinac Community Action Agency and the Michigan School Readiness Program. It is the first in four years that Mackinac Island has had a preschool program.

The school board's June 21 meeting will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a joint meeting with the City Council for a Open Meetings Act workshop, which will be conducted by Donald Schmitt, an attorney from Kalamazoo.

The meeting will be held at the school and is open to the public.
