Hattie Comfort

Hattie Comfort, 94, of Newberry, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Betterly's Adult Foster Care Home in Newberry.

She was born May 5, 1913, in Engadine to Gustave and Augusta (nee Erdtmann) Drefs, and grew up on the Drefs farm north of Engadine before moving to Chicago to find work.

She married Claude W. Comfort in Chicago December 29, 1935, and returned to Engadine. Mrs. Comfort was a devoted homemaker, enjoying gardening and crafts.

Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie Comfort of Buckley and Carol Dannenberg of Allegan; a stepdaughter, Naomi O'Neil of Tucson, Arizona; a grandson, Darin Stanfill of Vicksburg; siblings and their families, John and Laura Drefs of Newberry, Paul and Dorothy Drefs of Escanaba, Julia and Raymond Archambeau, Ethel Freeman, and Pauline and Einar Strom, all of Engadine, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Comfort is preceded in death by her husband, Claude, who died in 1966.

A service was held Tuesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry with Pastor Arthur Bode of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home Monday, May 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
