St. Ignace Baseball and Softball Teams Sweep Brimley in Doubleheaders

St. Ignace baseball team split its home Straits Area Conference twinbill with Cheboygan Monday, May 7, and swept a non-conference doubleheader on the road at Brimley Thursday, May 10.

Win Over Chiefs

During the opener against Cheboygan, the Saints trailed 6-0 after three innings before Derek Rountree, Andy Tamlyn, James Peterson, Lewie Mullins, and Jeffrey Gamble scored single runs in the fourth inning for St. Ignace. In the fifth inning, Peterson scored the tying run and Mullins the winning run as Gamble earned the mound win in relief.

In the nightcap, the Chiefs defeated the Saints 6-2 with five runs in the fifth inning.

Saints stats, Game One: Jeffrey Gamble- two hits, one run; Tyler Oja- two hits; Lewie Mullins- two runs, one hit; James Peterson- two runs; Andy Tamlyn- one hit, one run; Derek Rountree- one run, and Dan Olsen and Shawn Cowell- one hit each.

Saints Sweep Bays

St. Ignace swept Brimley 6-1 and 13-1 in the twinbill as Lewie Mullins and Derek Mullins picked up the mound wins for the Saints.

The Saints scored three runs in the second inning and single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

Saints stats, Game One: Stephen Bielat- one hit, three runs; Tyler Oja, Sam Fitzpatrick, and Jeffrey Gamble- one hit, one run each; Lewie Mullins, one hit.

During the nightcap, the St. Ignace bats exploded for 14 hits and scored 13 runs in the win over Brimley.

The Saints opened the game with seven runs in the first inning, three in the second and fourth innings, and one in the third.

Wins Twinbill

The St. Ignace girls softball team defeated Brimley 9-1 and 24-5 during a road twinbill Thursday, May 10, as Marcie Rickley pitched a two-hitter in the first game and Jamie Krug earned a three-hitter in the nightcap. No statistics were available for the doubleheader defeat to Cheboygan played Monday, May 7.

In the opener, the Saints scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth.

Saints stats: Ashly Peterson- two hits, two runs; Laura Rickley and Alyssa Pechta- two runs; Samantha Wright- one hit, one run; Katie Stelzer and Cally Klimczak- one hit.

The LaSalle offense scored one run in the first inning and exploded for 10 runs in the third inning and 13 in the fifth.
