St. Ignace The weather could be a lot worse. It's still only May. The Tiki Campground on South Airport Road is open for the busy summer. Carlton and Lenore Webb have been owners since 1973. The campground had been known as Old Indian Burial before their ownership. Vic Lawrence is happy to be home recuperating after being hospitalized in Petoskey. John and Joy Hagen, former residents of St. Ignace, are proud to announce their son Andrew's graduation Saturday, May 19, from Art Institute of Chicago. Andrew is employed at a Chicago public broadcasting station. It sure seems good to see all of the work going on at the former Huron Landing restaurant. The new business, Freshwater Foods, is owned by Marilyn and Pete Szabo, along with Cathy and Chris Szabo. A deli and bakery will be added to the business, and they plan on being open Memorial Day weekend. The partners also own two Freshwater stores and Patrick Sinclair's Irish Pub on Mackinac Island. Rosalie and Don Picard have moved back to St. Ignace after many years. Rosalie is a 1968 graduate of LaSalle High School. Congratulations to Diane Blair on her new job this week in the advertising department at The St. Ignace News. Yes, customers missed you in the First National Bank window; now they will really wonder where you are. Jo Ann Brohl of Wyandotte enjoyed a few days in St. Ignace with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nelson. It's always nice to see her in her hometown. Rebecca and Michael Smith are pleased to announce their new baby, Mason Frederick, who was born Monday, May 14, at 8:03 a.m. in Grand Rapids. He weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces, and measured 19 inches in length at birth. Mason joins his brother, Michael Paul, 1, and sister, Julia, 15. Grandparents are Denise and Henry Smith, and great-grandmother is Mary Edwards, all of St. Ignace. Shannon and David Lemmon are happy to announce the birth of their daughter, Lucy Helena, born Thursday, May 17. She weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces at birth. She joins her one-year-old brother, Paul David. Lucy Helena and Mason Smith have grandparents in common. Grandparents are Denise and Henry Smith, and great-grandmother is Mary Edwards, all of St. Ignace. Michele and Jim McMillan are proud to announce their baby girl, Chelsea Taylor. She arrived at 2:17 a.m. Thursday, May 17, weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and measuring 21 inches in length. Chelsea joins a one-year-old sister, Chloe. Grandparents are Hazel and Joe Decker, Eldon McMillan, and Marlene and Ed Sokolowski. |
