Commends Students, Staff Participating in Education Rally
To the Editor:

I commend Eric Cardwell, Gretchen Storey, and all the students, staff, and parents who participated in the May 16 education rally in Lansing to address the issue of school funding cuts. As one Cedarville student pointed out in her well-written speech, the future of our state economy begins with our ability to provide a well educated work force.

Another Cedarville student asked one of our state senators how the school funding cuts will affect his children. He admitted that the cuts would not affect his children because they attend a private school. Mr. Cardwell told me that the purpose of the rally was to "put faces with the funding cuts" in the minds of our government officials.

What better way to do that than by taking our students to Lansing and creating an opportunity for them to tell policymakers in their own words how the proposed cuts will affect their education and their lives. I hope our Congressmen and women will remember those faces, and give school funding the high priority it deserves in our state budget.
