Margaret "Eileen" Kemp, 76, of Rudyard, loved to bake and worked as a clerk at Dowd's Store in Fibre for many years. Mrs. Kemp died Monday, May 14, 2007, in Sault Ste. Marie.
She was born April 20, 1931, in Fibre, to Victor "Dixie" and Edna Mae (nee Steele) Sylvester. She grew up on the family farm in Fibre and at age 11, started working at Dowd's Store in Fibre. She continued to work there as a retail and postal clerk until the store closed many years later.
She married Leo Ervin Kemp December 10, 1948, in Rudyard.
She loved to cook and bake and gave away many loaves of bread. Known to her family as a loving and caring mother, Mrs. Kemp was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the Rudyard Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Leo; one son and his family, Larry and Jennifer Kemp of Eaton Rapids; two daughters, Cindy Kemp and Kelly Anne Kemp, both of Rudyard; four grandchildren and their families, Kimberly and Kelly Macy, Larry V. Kemp, Brandon L. Kemp, and Jillian R. Kemp; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Josiah Macy. Also surviving are three sisters and their families, Barbara and Clem Desrochers of Brimley, Marjean Sanford of Fibre, and Marjorie St. Louis of Fibre, and two brothers and their families, Roger and Kay Sylvester of Fibre and Ronald Sylvester of Lakewood, New Jersey.
Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Diane McDaniel; three brothers-in-law, Frank Schwiderson, Al Sanford, and Lloyd St. Louis, and a sister-inlaw, Mary Sylvester.
Visitation was Thursday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, followed by services at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend J.H. Vanial Hruaia officiating.
Burial was at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rudyard Presbyterian Church Handicap Accessibility Fund.
