Elsie Pershinske Elsie I. Pershinske, 92, of Engadine, owned and operated a dairy farm before enjoying a 20-year career at Hiawatha Sportsman's Club. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills, and her recipe for cinnamon rolls was a favorite at family and social gatherings. Mrs. Pershinske died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the Luce County Annex in Newberry, where she had resided since 2004. She was born August 17, 1914, in Engadine to Gottlieb and Olga (nee Friedensdorf) Price. She married Frederick Pershinske October 1, 1938 and they owned and operated a dairy farm in Engadine until her retirement in 1970. She then began working at the Hiawatha Sportsman's Club in 1975, and made many friends during her 20 years of employment there. Mrs. Pershinske was a lifetime member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Ladies Aide group for many years. She was also a longtime member of the Mackinac/Luce/ Schoolcraft Farm Bureau, hosting its first meeting at her home May 22, 1958. This group flourished over the years, with present membership exceeding 400 members. Survivors include her children and their families, Richard and Janice of Engadine and Judith Schroeder of Escanaba; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings and their families, Osker and Midge Price of Newberry, Bert Kramer of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Wanda and John Powell of Alpena; several nieces and nephews, and the Leslie Kempfer family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pershinske was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, who died March 12, 2001, and siblings Edmund Price in 1995, Erna McNeil in 1988, Martha Sinkus in 2004, Leona Somers in 2004, and Walter Price in 2005. Services were Saturday, May 19, at 6 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine with Pastor Arthur Bode officiating. Interment followed at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home in Newberry Friday, May 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church Saturday, May 19, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund. |
