Les Cheneaux We should all be aware of Memorial Day honoring our soldiers and our veterans who have given, and are giving, so much for all of us. Many of us go along with our daily lives without much thought to the young men and women who are serving so dangerously in other parts of the world. This special day gives us time to reflect and thank those who have served and are serving today. Thanks to all of them and may God bless those who are in active service and keep them safe. In the meantime, let us all pray for peace. Memorial Day weekend is also the time to plant flowers, not only at the cemetery, but in yards as well. Driving through Cedarville the other day, I noticed several volunteer workers rearranging the flower beds around town. These are hardworking people, but they are short of funds for buying flowers to plant in these beds to beautify Cedarville and Hessel; donations are welcome. Tax deductible checks may be sent to the Les Cheneaux Advisory Committee, P.O. Box 204, Cedarville, Michigan 49789. We have had several days of nice, warm weather, in fact it has been warm enough to wish for air conditioning! Just reflect on the winter that has ended, and be thankful for the warm sunshine. Blake Slater won $100 in the Lions Club lottery May 22. As the price of gas keeps going up and up, we are thankful that people still seem to be traveling. According to the parked cars and the check-out lines at the grocery store, the Les Cheneaux Islands has had an increase in traffic. We have noticed that many boats in Cedarville channel have lowered their speed, as have the cars on the highway. Kayaks, canoes, and rowboats will be the least expensive way to enjoy the water this summer. A lower speed is one of the best ways to save gas, and slowing down from 70 miles per hour to 60 on the freeway isn't a real hardship. |
