Saints Softball, Baseball Complete Regular Season, Prepare for Districts at Rudyard
Teams Combine for Three Victories in Last Week

St. Ignace Saints baseball and softball teams completed the regular season with twinbills against the Rudyard Bulldogs, Gaylord St. Mary Snowbirds, and the Newberry Indians and are now preparing for district tournaments in Rudyard Friday, June 1.

Saints Boys Baseball

The Saints registered a 1-5 record during the final week after dropping a Straits Area Conference (SAC) twinbill to Rudyard, 9-2 and 3-0, Monday, May 21. They also split with Gaylord St. Mary, losing the opener 17-5 before defeating the Snowbirds 13-6 in the nightcap Tuesday, May 22, and falling to Newberry 12-2 and 5-2 during a SAC doubleheader Thursday, May 24.

Saints Drop SAC Twinbill

The Bulldogs spread their offense, scoring three in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth while hilding the Saints to single runs in the second and third innings.

Rudyard scored one run in the first inning and two runs in the fifth and held the Saints to two hits as James Peterson and Shawn Cowell notched singles.

Saints Stats: Shawn Cowell, one hit, one run; Derek Rountree, two hits; Bryant Danielson, Lewie Mullins, Rob Robinson, one hit.

Saints Split With Snowbirds

Mistakes hurt the Saints in the opener against Gaylord St. Mary. The Snowbirds scored four runs in the first inning, exploded for 10 in the fourth, and three in the fifth, while the Saints managed only one run in the first and fourth in the fifth.

Saints Stats: James Peterson, two hits, one run; Andy Tamlyn and Shawn Cowell, one hit, one run; Sam Fitzpatrick and Bryant Danielson, one run; Derek Rountree, one hit.

During the win over St. Mary in the nightcap, the Saints scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and fourth, and five in the fifth to post the win.

Newberry scored eight runs in the first two innings during the opener against the Saints.

In game two, St. Ignace led 2-1 before the host Indians scored four runs in the sixth inning to post the Straits Area Conference (SAC) win.

During Final Week

St. Ignace swept Rudyard 5-1 and 7-1 during Straits Area Conference twinbill Monday, May 21. The team was shut out in two games, 3-0 and 2-0, to Gaylord St. Mary Tuesday, May 22, and fell to Newberry, 8-7 and 6-1, during a

Saints Fall to Snowbirds

St. Ignace allowed five runs in the doubleheader against Gaylord St. Mary, but the Saints offense failed to score.

During the opener, the Snowbirds scored one in the fourth inning and two in the sixth and one in the third and one in the fifth in the nightcap.

Saints Stats (both games): Alyssa Pechta, three hits; Dana Schieding, Misti Gamble, Samantha Wright, Jamie Krug, one hit.

Saints Drop Two at Newberry

St. Ignace led 7-3 after the second inning but the Indians scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to capture the victory.

Saints Stats: Katie Stelzer, one hit, one run; Laura Rickley, Samantha Wright, Cally Klimczak, Molly Therrian, Jamie Krug, one run.

In the nightcap, the Indians scored two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth inning, while the Saints were held to one run in the fourth inning as Alyssa Pechta recorded two hits and Ashly Peterson scored one run.
