Records Continue To Fall for Saints Jr. High Track

Records continue to fall for the St. Ignace junior high track team as the season ended during the Straits Area Conference Meet on the home track Monday, May 21, with the Saints girls team finishing second and the boys team finishing third.

Five Records Established

Five new St. Ignace records fell during the day:

Alex Thibault set a new mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.42 seconds.

Nicole Elmblad cleared a height of 7'7" to establish a new mark in the pole vault event.

Austin St. Louis's high jump mark of 5'7" is a new Saints record.

Caleb Litzner ran a time of 27.49 seconds in the low hurdles, and the boys 400-meter relay team of Gunnar Zipp, Austin St. Louis, Drew Duffie, and Caleb Litzner also established a new record with their time of 50.55 seconds.

In girls competition, Sault Ste. Marie won the title with 166.5 points, followed by St. Ignace with 141, Cheboygan with 126, Rudyard with 47, Newberry with 25.5, and Rogers City with 17.

Sault Ste. Marie also took first place in the boys competition, scoring a total of 144 points, followed by Cheboygan with 117, St. Ignace with 115, Rudyard with 85, Newberry with 48, and Rogers City with 7.

Top Finishers for the Saints

First place finishers: Grace Wheeler, high jump and 800-meter dash; Nicole Elmblad, pole vault; Austin St. Louis, high jump; Drew Duffie, 400; Gunnar Zipp, 200; Curtis Gustin, high hurdles; Caleb Litzner, low hurdles; 3200-meter girls relay team (Brittany Ellis, Mikaela Kelly, Grace Wheeler, and Nicole Elmblad); 400- and 800- meter relay boys relay teams (Austin St. Louis, Gunnar Zipp, Drew Duffie, and Caleb Litzner).

Second place finishers: Luke Thurston, shot put; Landon Marshall, pole vault; Alexa Thibault, 200, Mikaela Kelly, 1600; Taylor Becker, 400; Abby Chambers, 70 and third, 100; Lauren Goldthorpe, high jump, fifth low hurdles; girls 400 relay (Martina Beaudoin, Heather Beaudoin, Alex Thibault, Nicki Johnston); girls 1600 relay (Taylor Becker, Brittany Ellis, Torie Litzner, Mikaela Kelly).

Third place finishers: Devin Chargo, 3200; Heather Beaudoin, high hurdles; 3200- and 1600-meter relay teams (Devin Chargo, Luke Thurston, Brad Sayles, Cole Christenson).

Fourth place finishers: Brad Sayles, 800; Cole Christenson, long jump; Angela Fisher, 3200; Taylor Becker, 800; Heather Beaudoin, low hurdles.

Fifth place finishers: Martina Beaudoin, 100; Nicki Johnston, 100; Angela Fisher, 1600.
