Saints Teams Both Third at SAC Meet

The Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils boys track and field team and the Cheboygan Chiefs girls team captured the annual Straits Area Conference Meet at Cheboygan Thursday, May 24.

The Blue Devils totaled 184 points to win the division. They were followed by Cheboygan with 128, St. Ignace with 75, Rogers City with 58, Rudyard with 43, and Newberry with 42.

Cheboygan's girls team dominated the field, totaling 190 points, followed by Sault Ste. Marie with 141, the Saints with 82, Newberry with 70, Rudyard with 40, and Rogers City with 14.

St. Ignace Saints Results

Mario Calcaterra led the St. Ignace Saints boys with a win in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.93 seconds, and the long jump, with a leap of 21'0."

Kelsey Cryderman, for the Saints girls, won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.44.

The boys 400-meter relay team of Stefan Saffian, Kyle Smock, Anthony Lester, and Jesse Becker finished first in 46.60, and the girls foursome of Dani Ford, Caysey Brown, Samantha Radecki, and Kelsey Cryderman won the 400 relay in 54.01, and the 800 in 1:55.93.

Other Saints finishers: Derrick Clark, second in the high hurdles, third in the pole vault and 200; Caysey Brown, second in the long jump; Jaimee Bloxsom, second in the pole vault; Kayla Gustin, third in the high hurdles; Jake Weiss, third in the high jump; Chelsey Swope, fourth in the 1600; Kalli Jo Marshall, fourth in the pole vault; 1600 boys relay team (Gerrit Mortensen, Nick Montie, Anthony Lester, and Kyle Smock), fourth; Evan Everson, fifth in the long jump; the boys 3200-meter relay foursome (Shane Spring, Evan Everson, Nick Montie, and Gerrit Mortensen) fifth; Shane Spring, sixth in the high and low hurdles; Samantha Radecki, sixth in the long jump; Chelsea Bosley, sixth in the shot put; Kristen Olsen, sixth in the 800.
