Experimental Planes Converge at County Airport

Dave Herdegen (left) and Thomas Howard of Grand Haven pose in front of a Piper Warrior, a single-engine aircraft they flew to St. Ignace for the 15th Annual Experimental Aircraft (EAA) Association Chapter 560 Steak Out Sunday, June 3, at Mackinac County Airport. Captain Howard, a recreational pilot for 44 years, flies to the EAA fundraiser every year. "It's gorgeous up here," he told The St. Ignace News, noting that the Mackinac Straits is wonderful to see from the sky. The flight also allowed the gentlemen an excellent view of the Mackinac Bridge and a downstate fishing tournament. Grounded by fog, the two men planned to spend time enjoying the city. Before visiting St. Ignace, they landed on Bois Blanc Island, where they spent time biking.
