The all-day event will include firearms safety instruction and the opportunity for young people to safely handle and shoot different types of hunting and target guns.

Children ages 11 through 18 can attend the event for $5 each, which includes lunch at noon and a T-shirt. The event is limited to 50 young people. Registration may be made by calling (906) 635- 9700, where callers can leave their name, phone number, and a short message if no one answers.

Among the activities offered, participants can watch a demonstration on loading and shooting a black powder rifle; learn about the different types of rifles, pistols, and shotguns; shoot .22 caliber rifles at targets; shoot rifles, pistols, and shotguns like those used 100 years ago; shoot bows and arrows at life size animal targets, and shoot a shotgun at clay targets on the trap range.

A parent or guardian should accompany the child to the range to complete registration.
