DeTour Area
By Barbara Buschbacher 297-8075 bbann@sault.com

We welcome the month of June, for it means the beginning of summer. It is time to enjoy the beaches and the good old summertime. It is a fun time for young people to ride bikes around the Village, so please slow down when driving through town.

It was approved to close Midway Plaisance Street between Ontario and Erie streets Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9, for the Annual Blessing of the Bikes. (Be prepared for the roaring of the bikes as they ride into the Village.)

The Annual Street Art Fair will be Saturday, June 30. Nancy Mordecai is the coordinator of this fair.

The annual rummage sale at Sacred Heart Catholic Hall will be Friday, June 29, through Sunday, July 1. Drop-off dates began Friday, June 1, and will continue every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the hall.

The 2007 DeTour "X" Atlantic Salmon Derby Saturday, June 2, was a success. Gary Dudeck announced the derby participants raised more than $500 toward the support of the DeTour Fish Cleaning Station, $225 through entrance fees and the remainder in food donations and raffle proceeds. The money will be earmarked for improvements to the station and new equipment.

In first place, Team Big Water Tackle members Captain George Gerard and brothers Terry, Todd, Troy, and Ty Wortley pocketed $917. Second and third place winner is the Cedarville Team, with members Norm Perkins and deckhands on the Les Cheneaux Islands Charter boat, Sea Hawk. They won $382.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all the participants, donors, and the event sponsors: River Bend Resort, North Country Sports, Marinelock LLC, and Dockside Cafe. Special thanks to the excellent volunteers that helped to complete this event.
