Saints Girls 2nd in Division 2
Cryderman Wins Twice Plus Two Relay 2nds; Pole Vault Trio Sweeps

The St. Ignace Saints girls team finished runner-up during the Division 2 Upper Peninsula Finals in Kingsford Saturday, June 1. The St. Ignace Saints girls track and field team finished second in Division II of the Upper Peninsula Finals in Kingsford, Saturday, June 2.

Ispheming won the girls meet with 72 points, followed by the Saints with 69, Munising 68, Hancock 64, Norway 57, Manistique 48, Stephenson 38, Newberry 28, West Iron County 26, Ironwood 20, Westwood 19, and Rudyard 18.

The 1600-meter relay event ultimately determined the winner, as Ispheming took second place, gaining points on the Saints, who did not have a team qualify for the finals.

"The girls all did great," said Saints Coach Diane Huskey.

In the boys category, the Stephenson Eagles boys track and field team dominated Division 2 with 114 points, followed by Ironwood with 73, Manistique 63, Munising 52, Norway and Westwood 44, St. Ignace 42, Newberry 31, Ispheming 26, West Iron County 22, and Hancock and Rudyard 8.

In the Division I girls meet, Escanaba and Marquette tied for first place with 101 points, followed by Kingsford with 55, Calumet 52, Menominee and Negaunee 39, Gladstone and Iron Mountain 38, Houghton 34, Sault Ste. Marie 27, and Gwinn 3.

In the Division 1 boys meet, Gladstone won with 80 points, followed by Escanaba with 74.5, Kingford 72, Menominee 56, Marquette 52, Sault Ste. Marie 49, Calumet 35.5, Negaunee 34, and Iron Mountain and Houghton 31.

Kelsey Cryderman Records Two Victories at Finals; Saints

Pole Vaulters Take Top 3 Spots

St. Ignace senior Kelsey Cryderman completed her stand-out career with victories in a few events in the U.P. Finals. In the 400-meter dash, she recorded a career-best time of 1:00.96. She also took first in the 200-meter dash in 27.37 and anchored the 400- and 800-meter relay teams, which placed second, joining teammates Caysey Brown, Samantha Radecki, and Dani Ford.

The trio of Saints pole vaulters took the first three places as Jaimee Bloxsom cleared the height of 8'6" for first, Kali Jo Marshall's leap of 8'0" took second, and Erica Ahlich finished third with her 7'6" jump.

Caysey Brown finished third in the long jump, the Saints 3200- meter relay team of Chelsey Swope, Kristen Olsen, Erica Ahlich, and Dani Ford took fifth, and Kayla Gustin placed sixth in the high hurdles.

Rudyard's Allyson Markstrom

Takes Third in Three Events

Rudyard's Allyson Markstrom led the Bulldogs with a second place finish in low hurdles, took fourth in the high hurdles, and fifth in the high jump. Brittany Hoolsema finished fourth in the 1600-meter run.

Calcaterra Places in Four

Events for the Saints St. Ignace senior Mario Calcaterra finished second with a leap of 19'11.5" in the long jump, and took second in the 400- meter dash with a time of 52.60. He also placed fourth in the 200- meter dash and was a member of the third place 800-relay team with Kyle Smock, Anthony Lester, and Derrick Clark.

Derrick Clark took third in the high hurdles and sixth in the 200- meter run. Jake Weiss took third in the high jump.

Kyle Smock placed fifth in the 100-meter dash, and the Saints 1600- meter relay foursome of Gerrit Mortensen, Kyle Smock, Anthony Lester, and Nick Montie placed sixth.

Rud- yard's Brady Burby finished third in the shot put and Isiah Otten took fifth in the 1600-meter run.
