Cedarville To Host All-Star Hoops Cedarville, which won the Boys Class D State Basketball Championship this past winter, will host the Upper Peninsula All- Star Basketball Classic for the second consecutive year at Les Cheneaux Community Schools' John E. Duncan Gymnasium Saturday, June 9. The field of 48 athletes will include six girls, five boys, and three coaches from the Eastern Upper Peninsula (EUP). The South Team will include EUP's Elicia Derusha of Engadine, Corine Ross of Rudyard, Emily Feldhake of Cedarville, Veronica Gough and Jessie Ledy of Pickford, Dani Fegan of Sault Ste. Marie, and Coach Becky Arbic of Pickford. The East Team has Justin Baker of Cedarville, Jake Weiss and Dan Olsen of St. Ignace, David Derusha of Engadine, Rob Guimnod of Sault Ste. Marie, and coaches David Duncan of the Cedarville Trojans and Doug Ingalls of St. Ignace. Joining the EUP girls on the South Team are Katie LaMuth of Manistique, Briana Wiegele of Iron Mountain, Lauren Marshall and Linzy Monticello of Rapid River, Maegan Leake of Crystal Falls-Forest Park, Ashley Moore of Negaunee, and Coach Mike Roell of North Dickinson. The girls' North Team includes Brooke and Nicole Asiala and Alyssa Polso of Houghton, Katie Twardzik of Calumet, Adena Ryynanen and Jesse Soumis of Chassell, Becky Wesa of Painesdale Jeffers, Kaitlin Voight of Ewen-Trout Creek, Erin Powers and Melissa LaPointe of Marquette, Brittany Pertile of Ironwood, and coaches Julie Filpus of Houghton and Russ Ryynanen of Chassell. Joining the EUP boys on the East Team are Ryan Maki of Superior Central, Eric Kutches and Jordan Young of Escanaba, Tanner Norman of Gwinn, Josh Sargent of Gladstone, Jared Benson of Carney-Nadeau, Jordan Gobert of Mid Peninsula, and Jim Mileski of Bark River-Harris. The West Team includes Greg Peterson and Max LaSatz of Houghton, Eric Hawley of Ontonagon, Matt Sunderg of Westwood, Dave Trevarthen of Bessemer, Ross Kinnunen of Painesdale Jeffers, Justin Groeneveld and Geoff Smart of Kingsford, Mark Roell and Grant Siegler of North Dickinson, Bryan LaChapelle of Crystal Falls-Forest Park, Brian Aimsback of Watersmeet, Shane Wheeler of Hancock, and coaches Jason Carter of Houghton and Duane Snell of Painesdale- Jeffers. The weekend event will begin Friday, June 8, with a Star Line cruise under the Mackinac Bridge and an hour's stay on Mackinac Island before returning to St. Ignace. Special events include threepoint and free throw shooting contests and slam-dunk contests, which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9. Then the girls game will begin at 1 p.m., with the boys game to follow. |
