Swim Team Takes 1st Place

EUP Special Olympics athletes placed first with a total of 361 points at the U.P. Regional Swim Meet at Lake Superior State University's Norris Center April 21. There were 114 athletes who participated in the meet, followed by a dinner, carnival, and dance at Sault Ste. Marie High School.
Local athletes participating were Kamalia Munz and Mitchell Ross of Brimley, Dawn Oberle, Robbin Codling, Marty Manitowabi, Stacey Postma, and Amanda Shoberg, all of Rudyard, Christina Paquin and Ashley St. Andrew of St. Ignace, and Christopher Panik, Joan Aikens, William Landreville, Judy Rexstrew, Cher Tom, and Tasha Turner, all of Sault Ste. Marie.
Ms. Munz, Ms. Aikens, Ms. Paquin, and Ms. Postma formed the EUP Relay Team Division Two, and took first place. Also taking first place in a separate event were Ms. Oberle, Ms. Shoberg, Ms. Tom, and Ms. St. Andrew in EUP Relay Team Division Five.
Volunteers who assisted at the event included the United States Coast Guard, who presented the colors, Behweting Singers, Smith and Company Realty, Alexis Burke, Sault High Swim Coach Mark Hutchins, Sault High Swim Team athletes, and Lake Superior State University students. After lunch was served by Kiwanis Club members, medals and trophies were awarded.
