The Portage Players will present "Follywood," a variety show, Sunday, June 24, featuring the musical stylings of "The Doo Wops," "B-52's," Wayne Newton, and Dolly Parton. The show starts at 1 p.m. under the tent at Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn. There also will be a luncheon. The cost is $25 donation for adults and $18 donation for children younger than age 12. All proceeds will benefit the Curtis Community Arts Council. Tickets are available at Chamberlin's Ole Forest Inn or Curtis Service.

The Naubinway-Engadine Merchant's Association's third annual community art auction is in the works. This year's theme is lighthouses. They will be displayed throughout the community all summer, and then auctioned off at the Naubinway Fall Fest in September. The lighthouses will be available for viewing at Danny's Auto Value in Engadine, Tahquamenon Area Credit Union, Hiawatha Sportsman's Club, and real estate offices in Naubinway and Engadine, Marathon Station, and First National Bank of St. Ignace in Naubinway.

There will be a baby photo contest. Photograph boards will be on display at Jack's SuperValu Friday, June 29, through Monday, July 2; Pamida Thursday, July 5, through Monday, July 9; Save-alot Thursday, July 12, through Monday, July 16, and the Schoolcraft County Fair Building during the fair. Photographs should be mailed to: Jen Thayer, 301 Bear Street, Manistique, MI 49854. If you have any questions, call Ms. Thayer at (906) 286- 0389. She also has information about registration for the Schoolcraft County Queen Contest and Little Prince and Little Princess contests.

The big Independence Day celebration in Manistique will be Friday, June 29, and Saturday, June 30. The kiddie parade starts at 6 p.m. June 29.

The annual Independence Day parade is Saturday, June 30, starting at 12:30 p.m. Parade line-up is at 11:30 a.m. The Newman Navy League Cadet Corps Band will be performing a concert at the marina starting at 9:30 p.m. There will be music and food booths, and fireworks at dusk.

The Engadine United Methodist Church is having a free picnic Wednesday, June 27, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the church. The menu consists of sloppy joes and hot dogs. In case of rain, the picnic will be held inside. There will be homemade ice cream and a cake walk for the children. Everyone is welcome.
