St. Ignace The first official day of summer arrives Thursday, June 21. Boating, picnics, hiking, and soaking up the sun at a favorite beach are a few ways to enjoy family and friends. Hang on to those small hands, and keep your children safe. Jack Fenlon's 80th birthday party was held Friday, June 8, at the Moose Lodge, with a fish fry dinner and a beautiful cake. Many friends and family members attended from St. Ignace, and others traveled many miles to celebrate with Mr. Fenlon. His special wish is to do this all over again 10 years from now. A mandatory meeting for the Star Line crew of 85 was held Wednesday, June 13, at the Village Inn in St. Ignace. Many issues were discussed while employees went over a test together in which dangerous situations may occur on boats. Pizza and pop were served. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Smith and Terry's sister, Pat Smith, enjoyed Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where they attended a birthday party for Larry Stascak, who turned 50, and his brother, Richard Stascak, who turned 60. Good luck to Will Visnaw on his new experience with lawn care in the St. Ignace area. Shirley Cataline of St. Martin's Point, along with her two sisters, Joan Coapman of California, and Barbara Comptom of Perry, enjoyed a lovely birthday party for their uncle, Ed Tift. Mr. Tift, who resides in Lake Orion, turned 100 years old Thursday, June 14. About 100 people attended the party and shared memories of the past. Happy birthday wishes to Howard Hague June 26, Tom Colegrove June 27, and Samantha LaVake June 30. The Sand Dunes beach was a beautiful site to be last week. The water is a good temperature already. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches still make a good lunch. Peg and Skip Jarman hosted a graduation party for their grandson, Zachary Isaac, Saturday, June 9, at the St. Ignace Masonic Temple. Zachary was graduated from Calumet High School and plans to attend Finlandia University in the fall. There were more than 50 friends and relatives from St. Ignace, Wayne, Grand Rapids, Caro, Jackson, Gould City and, of course, Calumet. As no party would be complete without a little entertainment, Zachary was asked to cut the cake, unaware that the "cake," made by his grandmother, was a two-layer frosted sponge. It appeared to be a normal cake, so he tried cutting it for several minutes. Everyone had a good laugh. |
