Fire Near Raco Burns 65 Acres A fire north of Raco had burned at least 65 acres by Monday evening, June 18, according to a report from the U.S. Forest Service at Hiawatha National Forest. The fire started Monday afternoon, around 4 p.m., approximately two miles north of M-28, just east of the Brimley Grade Road. The Forest Service reports the fire was caused by high winds, which stoked a fire outside an area where forest service crews were conducting a prescribed burn. Forest service crews monitored two controlled burns Tuesday, June 12, and Wednesday, June 13, and reported no unusual fire activity. Fire crews and equipment are on the scene of the fire, which the Forest Service reports is no immediate threat to homes in the area. The Brimley Grade Road is closed to the public for safety reasons and to allow the firefighters direct access. |
