Edna Mae Besteman of Rudyard was a member of the Rudyard Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid at the church. She also worked as an Avon sales representative for several years. Mrs. Besteman died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, at age 83.
She was born March 14, 1924, in Rudyard, to William and Jennie (nee Ploegstra) Postma.
A lifelong Rudyard resident, she was graduated from Rudyard High School. She married Jay Besteman May 20, 1942, in Rudyard.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, knitting, and especially enjoyed baking.
Mrs. Besteman is survived by her husband of 65 years; one daughter and her family, Nancy and Paul DeJonge of Hudsonville; two sons and their families, Peter Jay Besteman of Hamilton and Richard and Janice Besteman of Rudyard; one son-in-law, Gary Brinks of Hudsonville; 16 grandchildren and their families, Steve and Kelli Brinks, Mike and Jamie Brinks, Rick and Christy Brinks, Jody and Jason Gilmore, Brian and Tammy Mannes, Bradley and Stephanie Mannes, Matthew DeJonge, Jana and Kyle Buiskool, Mike and Shannon DeJonge, Neil and Becky Besteman, Pam and Brian Tyson, Julia Besteman, Alyssa Besteman, Fred Besteman, Tina and Steve Sawyer, and Dennis Besteman; and 17 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Caleb, Nolan, Jarrett, Abby, and Jacob Brinks, Shadrack, Brianna, and Christine Mannes, Ryan and Jake Buiskool, Macy and Serena DeJonge, Caden "Bud" Besteman, and Cara and Lauren Sawyer, and two brothers and their families, William Postma and Harvey and Johanna Postma, all of California.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Brinks, who died in 1998, two sons, Frederick, who died in 1970, and James, who died in 1999, and two sisters, Winifred Snelgrooves and Doris Bawks.
Services were at Rudyard Christian Reformed Church in Rudyard Monday, June 18. Pastors Robert D. Steen and Ron Folkersma officiated.
Burial was in North Rudyard Cemetery.
Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
