Joseph Vogl Joseph J. Vogl of Gould City worked for 42 years for the Mackinac County Road Commission and was a foreman at the time of his retirement. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps as a medical technician in the Asiatic- Pacific Theater. Mr. Vogl died at age 87, Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at his home in Gould City. He was born April 9, 1920, in Masonville, to Daniel and Anna (nee Dott) Vogl. He moved to Corrine as a child. He was a graduate of Gould City High School. He married Kathleen M. Keller in Engadine May 19, 1945, and they made their home in Gould City. Mr. Vogl was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Engadine and the Engadine Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8372. He enjoyed tinkering with repairs, casino gaming, and was regarded as a community handyman. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Vogl is survived by his wife, Kathleen Vogl, of Gould City; a daughter and her family, Sandra and Wes Selby of St. Johns; a son and his family, Alan and Linda Vogl of St. Johns; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Vogl, two sisters, Helen Harringer and Mary Barber, and four brothers, Francis, John, Art, and George Vogl. Visitation and services were held Saturday, June 16, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique, with the Reverend Cathy Gumpert officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Newton Township Cemetery in Gould City. |
