Long-awaited Weevils Go To Work in Cedarville Bay

      The term "snug as a bug in rug" was illustrated as 15,000 milfoil weevils were carefully placed in heavy mats of weeds in Cedarville Bay Thursday, June 21. Soon after, the tiny aquatic insects started their new job of controlling an invasive plant called Eurasian watermilfoil in the bay.

EUP July 4 Celebrations Announced
      Independence Day observances are planned throughout the area for various dates next week. St. Ignace Crowning of the royal court Monday, July 2, will begin St. Ignace Fourth of July festivities, which will include a parade, Fire Department public picnic and open house, and fireworks.

Designed to spur art, educational, and cultural activities in the region, the $700,000 to $800,000 building is hoped by planners to be a major force in economic development for the central Upper Peninsula.
