Rexton-Garnet
By Linda Livermore 595-7283

Summertime is upon us.

With graduation behind us, now come the weddings, at least one a month.

Congratulations this week to Lyle Sisson and Natalie Metcalf, who will wed this Saturday in Engadine. I remember when Lyle was this happy-go-lucky, dirtbike riding little redhead. How quickly the years have gone by.

Engagement congratulations are in order as well to our niece, Heather Livermore, who will be wed this fall to Glen Arnold of St. Ignace.

Mayna and Bill Austin were in town for a visit last week to tend the gravesites of Mayna's folks, Stanley and Belle Bowman, longago Rexton residents.

Joining in the birthday celebration for former pastor Joe Swartz, who celebrated his 90th year last week, were Louella Snow, Evelyn Burgess, and Mary Ellen Stephenson, along with Shoe and Darlene Shoemaker, all of whom traveled to Fairview for the day. They enjoyed visiting with all of the Swartz children and spouses, who were also in town for the celebration.

A reminder for the Sault Tribe Naubinway Elders of the monthly meeting Wednesday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Naubinway pavilion. The Elders will have a bake sale and fish fry Saturday, June 30, in conjunction with the Naubinway Merchants Association to raise funds for the fireworks display for the Fourth of July.

The Curtis parade is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1. It most certainly lives up to its billing as the "biggest small town parade," and folks come from near and far to kick off the holiday celebration.

The Burgess household enjoyed the company last week of Dale's daughter and granddaughter, Jenn and Kayla, from downstate Capac.

Prayers and get well wishes are being offered for tiny Michael Dean Stephenson, who underwent surgery at Marquette General Hospital. Michael, who had arrived to this world a little early, is the son of Junior and Cindy, and grandson of MaryEllen Stephenson of Rexton.

A birthday celebration for my mom, Nona Fraleigh, saw all of my brothers and sisters from near and far join in, including Diana Davis of New Haven, Connecticut, Lana Thompson of Screven, Georgia, Teri Sherbrook of Big Piney, Wyoming, and the local brothers, Dave Beaudoin of Curtis, Ron Beaudoin of McMillan, along with my husband, Dave, and myself. Sharing cake with us were mom's cousins, Arvilla McCall and Brenda and Jerry Garries, all of St. Ignace.

Birthday wishes to Barb Kleeman, Danny Spencer, and resident "can-do" man, Ron Jones, all celebrating June 24, my brother, Ron Beaudoin, along with my niece, Robyn Albrecht, my nephew, Mike Livermore, and Wendy Kerridge Houghton, all celebrating June 26, Casey Kerridge, Amy Kerridge, Chad Hood, and my brother-in-law, Lester Livermore, June 29, and Betsy Spencer and Kyle Franklin June 30.

Belated birthday wishes to Chad Gouza June 19, Shannon Browning June 20, Barb Kerridge and Jack Tippett June 22, and Bob Aldrich and my niece, Jenna Derusha, June 23.

Anniversary wishes to Junior and Darlene Shoemaker, who celebrated June 24, along with Pastor Joe and Naomi Swartz celebrating the same date, Buster and Pauline Peters June 25, and Dave and Robyn Albrecht, our neighbors and family, June 27.

Condolences to Cindy Pongracz on the loss of her mom, Barb Paulitch, of St. Ignace.
