Clyde Savard

Clyde C. Savard, 85, of St. Ignace died Monday, June 18, 2007, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, following a lingering illness.

Mr. Savard was born in St. Ignace December 25, 1921, to Albert and Cecelia (nee Chenier) Savard. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a medic and receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery and injuries during the war. He served from October 1942 to November 8, 1945, and was a surgical technician. Mr. Savard was wounded December 7, 1944, near Schmidt, Germany. He also served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

After the war, Mr. Savard worked for A&P Company driving a truck, spent winters plowing snow for Mackinac County, and retired from truck driving for McGregor Oil Company in St. Ignace. He also drove truck for T.A. Taylor Company.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Mr. Savard is survived by three sons and their families, David and Kathie Savard of Sault Ste. Marie, Jeff Savard of St. Ignace, and Richard and Shelly Savard of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two daughters and their families, AnneMarie and John Bjorngjeld of Sugarland, Texas, and Mary Jo Coveyou of St. Ignace; one sister and her family, Addie Wilde of St. Ignace; a brother and his family, Lloyd Savard of Bridgeport; 12 grandchildren and their families, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by 11 siblings and two grandchildren, Stephanie Savard and Molly Coveyou.

Friends called at Dodson Funeral Home Thursday, June 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m. led by Deacon Don Olmstead. Services were Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Moran with Father Norbert Landreville officiating.
