John Mitchell John A. Mitchell, 98, of Newberry, had a career as a millwright with U.S. Steel. Mr. Mitchell died Monday, June 18, 2007, at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital. He was born February 14, 1909, in Gould City to Joseph and Margaret (nee Cook) Mitchell. On October 29, 1935, he married Doris Strickland in Manistique, and they resided in Pickford, where he was employed as a millwright with U.S. Steel until his retirement. Mr. Mitchell had been a resident of Newberry since 1975. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newberry. Survivors include a son and his family, Donald and Darlene Mitchell of Racine, Wisconsin; a daughter, Donna Mitchell of Moran; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and a dear friend, Betty Kidder of Newberry. Besides his parents, Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by his wife, who died December 28, 1998. Also preceding him in death are two brothers, six sisters, and one greatgranddaughter. Services were held at Beaulieu Funeral Home Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. |
