LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Abuse of Special Hunting, Fishing Privileges Needs to Stop
To the Editor:

Hunting and fishing licenses to be raised affects us all.

I live in the Eastern Upper Peninsula, where a group of people have special privileges. With these special privileges, they do not have to purchase a Michigan license. They can start hunting in August, small game as well as deer. They are issued five kill tags and may receive more, and kill anything.

Fishing is another issue. They can use more lines, keeping any size fish and as many as they want. In inland waters and some of the bays in the Les Cheneaux area, they are supposed to follow Michigan rules, but they do not. Law enforcement does nothing.

This does not only happen here. In the west end of the U.P., they net inland waters and lakes. The State of Michigan plants with funding from our licenses.

My point is the playing field should be more equal. The select few that abuse their special privileges should be held accountable for their actions.

I enjoy the outdoors, as do many people. We live to hunt and fish. However, the abuse of the game and fish needs to stop!

Law enforcement on both sides of the fence have to start doing their jobs. Even working together to get a hand on the abuse.

Sportsmen on both sides need to band together to stop the abuse.

The time is at hand, the sportsmen need to take a stand. If we want fish and game, we need to stop the abuse.
