Island Takes 2nd Place in Midwest
      Mackinac Island ranks only behind Chicago as the most popular vacation spot in the Midwest, according to a survey of AAA travel agents. The survey of 572 agents, conducted earlier this year, asked them to rate popular destinations based on their professional opinion.

      Fifteen volunteers worked until the sun dipped low in the sky behind Hessel Beach Friday night, June 29. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the crew planted a new lawn, picked rocks out of the soil and sand, built flower beds, and planted flowers around the public beach and restrooms.
