'Living With Nature' Series Will Begin Thursday at Cedarville "Living with Nature," a series of four programs about Les Cheneaux Islands ecology and outdoor activities, will debut Thursday, July 5, with Greg Wright's presentation on Lake Huron. The program will start at 10 a.m. at the Les Cheneaux Community Schools Library, at the corner of M-134 and Beach Street in Cedarville. Mr. Wright is a fisheries biologist with the Chippewa/Ottawa Resource Authority's Nunn's Creek Fish Hatchery near Hessel. His topic, "Lake Huron: A Changing Lake," will include information about drastic changes taking place on the lake since the invasion of non-native species. Thursday, July 12, Cynthia Pryor from the western Upper Peninsula will talk about her experience with alternative home energy in her presentation, "Living in Special Places: Simpler Lifestyles in Locales Off the Beaten Path." She lives "off the grid" in the Huron Mountains near Big Bay in the Upper Peninsula, and employs both rustic and technologically advanced methods of lighting and heating her home without conventional electricity. AGreat Lakes Paddling Primer will be offered Thursday, July 19, led by Woods and Waters Ecotours owner Jessie Hadley of Hessel. A professional tour guide and wildlife biologist, Ms. Hadley will introduce the audience to the sport of kayaking and some fascinating places to explore by water. Thursday, July 26, Rhonda McGreevy, chair of the Clark Township Bike Path Committee, will describe the path's development, progress, and successes. The committee is developing the 22-mile scenic pathway from Search Bay in the west to Albany Bay in the east. The path is a section of the proposed North Huron Scenic Pathway from St. Ignace to Drummond Island. All sessions are free and open to the public, and will all be presented at the school library.
