Summer Intern Gina Della-Moretta Joins Crew at Little Bear East

Gina Della-Moretta of St. Ignace is participating in an internship at the St. Ignace City Recreation Department, working with graphics design and assisting department coordinator Erica Mattson and City Manager Eric Dodson.

Gina Della-Moretta, 21, of St. Ignace, is participating in a 12- week summer internship at the St. Ignace City Recreation Department at Little Bear East Arena and Community Center.

The Central Michigan University senior, who started work Monday, May 14, is assisting City Manager Eric Dodson and recreation coordinator Erica (nee Cena) Mattson with promoting events throughout the summer. Miss Della-Moretta also works with facility host Helen Thibault.

Miss Della-Moretta has designed wedding pamphlets and a new logo for the recreation center, to be used on letterheads and promotional advertisements. She has gained experience in graphics design through school and through involvement of Grace Church of Mount Pleasant, where she is a member of a graphics committee.

She has proven to be a great asset for the recreation department, said Mrs. Mattson.

"Gina's really on top of things," said Mrs. Mattson. "She's so computer savvy. She's definitely been helpful to have around."

Miss Della-Moretta has helped the department install its new PowerPoint computer program, which, said Mrs. Mattson, is in demand by groups using Little Bear East for conferences. She also helps operate the concession stand at youth baseball games.

Miss Della-Moretta, a 2004 graduate of LaSalle High School, is studying marketing and advertising. She hopes to become a marketer in the public service arena, working with a nonprofit organization, for example.

She has been closely studying city government by attending City Council and Recreation Advisory Committee meetings.

"I like seeing how city departments work together to get things done," said Miss Della-Moretta, who is the daughter of Yvonne and Tom Della-Moretta. Mr. Della- Moretta is a city councilman.
