Host of Youth Art Classes To Begin at Les Cheneaux Library

The "lazy, hazy" days of summer need not be idle, since a host of activities are offered in the Les Cheneaux Islands throughout the summer.

Summer art classes for children will be at Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville starting Tuesday, July 10 and ending Thursday, July 26. Drawing, beading, wool felt needle punching, and folk art painting classes will be offered to children of varying ages.

All classes will be from 11 a.m. to noon. The following classes will be offered, and are open to all children for the ages specified. Classes are $10 each unless otherwise noted.

Beginning drawing will be taught by an experienced art teacher and offered to children ages four to 10, broken into two age groups. Each session will be unique, and will not repeat content of the other drawing classes.

Beginning drawing for children ages four to six will be offered on three different dates, including Tuesday, July 10, Tuesday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 24.

Drawing for children ages seven to 10 will also be offered on three different dates, including Thursday, July 12, Wednesday, July 18, and Thursday, July 26.

A beading class for children ages seven to 10 will be offered Wednesday, July 11, and costs $15.

Lessons in needle punching, the art of using a punch to make wool felt items, will be offered for ages seven to 10 Wednesday, July 18. The cost is $15.

Folk art painting, a style of whimsical painting reflecting daily life, will be offered for ages seven to 10 Wednesday, July 25. The class has limited space.

Anyone who wants to participate in a class should register as soon as possible. Classes will close as they are filled.

Registration forms are available at the check-out desk at Les Cheneaux Community Library on Hodeck Street in Cedarville, or call the library at (906) 484-3547.
