DeTour Area
By Barbara Buschbacher 297-8075 bbann@sault.com

Where is the time going? It is hard to believe that one of the most celebrated of all holidays, the Fourth of July, is past. Everyone loves a parade, and the DeTour parade was spectacular. First place in the float contest was won by Bonnie Hughes. Second place winner was Mike Galarowic. Congratulation to those who constructed the Mark Twain float and to Emory and Verna Olmstead, who were selected to be the Grand Marshals.

Winners of the 50/50 raffle are: Donna Piche, $565; Rocky Woodward, $169.50; Larry Cross, $113; 42 people won prizes in the mini-raffle.

The children's carnival coordinated by Debbie Fountain was a success. The children enjoyed the cotton candy and the snow cones. The youngsters were kept busy at the pavilion with races officiated by Red Adams. All winners were happy to receive money for their participation. At the pavilion, adults enjoyed a reunion with friends who have returned to the area to help celebrate the holiday. The day ended with beautiful fireworks at the Botanical Gardens. The DeTour Area Chamber of Commerce and businesses donated prizes.

More events are on the agenda for this weekend. A Village-Wide Garage Sale will be held this Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14. Food for thought: Encouragement is like a peanut butter sandwich. The more you spread it around, the better things stick together.
