DeTour Area In spite of the cool and rainy days we have experienced as of late, "the good old summertime" continues. Swimming, cook-outs, boating, and beach parties continue. A question we all have is, "What happened to the hot weather we are supposed to have this month?" An answer, "The sun is warm." The annual Home and Garden Tour will take place Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will be available at the Botanical Gardens on M-134 approaching the Village. There are just a few openings left for the 1:30 p.m. luncheon, and reservations are needed. The luncheon is held in the gardens of the Wytiaz home on Ontario Street. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Botanical Garden Club. In case of rainy weather, tickets will be available in the Village Hall and the luncheon will be inside the Wytiaz home. Being optimistic as we are, the day will be warm and sunny with no clouds in sight. Other events on the agenda include summer theater in August. The play this year is a mysterycomedy entitled, "Good Help is Hard to Murder." Rehearsals are in full swing. What fun it will be to see our DeTour friends in action on stage. Looking ahead, plans for "Happy Apple Day" are in the making for September 15. Diane Karsh, Angie Leonard, and Sandy Wytiaz hosted the party for Glen and Joan Shaw in celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary. The food was delicious. It seemed that most of the residents of DeTour attended to congratulate the Shaws. The anniversary cake was topped with a miniature bride and groom that had topped the wedding cake 70 years ago. It was amazing to most everyone that this relic had been stored for so long. We hope this wonderful couple may spend many more happy years together. Food for thought: Man does not live by bread alone; he needs peanut butter and jelly to go with it. |
