The Les Cheneaux Education Foundation's Art Chair auction has started, and bids are being taken on chairs displayed at the Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville. The auction will continue through Tuesday, July 31. Bid sheets accompany the chairs at the auction. Bids must be submitted in person during regular library hours.
This is the second annual fundraising auction for the Education Foundation, which supports local theater productions, awards art camp scholarships to fine and performing arts students, and helps pay for extracurricular activities and educational enhancements for the Les Cheneaux Community Schools district.
Last year, the organization raised more than $1,500 through a silent auction of tables decorated by local artists and volunteers.

The image was created by Les Cheneaux Islands artist Kate Windsor Otstot, and depicts the island before a fire destroyed some of the roofline last year. The chair is one of several available by auction at Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville. |

This year's crop of artwork was decorated by artists, volunteers, and children. A child's whimsical touch can be seen on one chair decorated with cartoon-like stars.
Two chairs have been transformed into plant stands. One chair features a detailed painting of a boat cruising through the Les Cheneaux Islands, while another features a compass rose on the seat. A large chair made by woodshop students at Les Cheneaux Community Schools has been decorated with chickadees, and several other chairs are available for bidding.
