Windquest Is First Yacht Race Finisher

Windquest, a yacht owned by Doug DeVos of Grand Rapids, crossed the finish line between Round Island Lighthouse and Windermere Point on Mackinac Island Sunday, July 15, at 6:54 p.m., making it the first to finish the Chicago to Mackinac race for the second year in a row. The Max Z86 was the largest boat in the fleet of racers in the 99th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac.

Windquest's elapsed time was 28 hours, 44 minutes and 43 seconds. It was not quite fast enough to beat the speed record set in 2002 for 23 hours, 30 minutes, and 34 seconds by Roy Disney's Pyewacket.
