DeTour Area
By Barbara Buschbacher 297-8075 bbann@sault.com

Vacationers are thrilled, as we are, with the beautiful weather we have been enjoying, although we are wishing for a few days of badly needed rain. We must heed the warnings of the high fire danger. We do not want to lose any more of our beautiful forests in the Upper Peninsula.

Coming up this weekend in DeTour is the performance of the play, "Good Help is Hard to Murder." The cast of area women and a parrot are prepared to give an evening of entertainment. The performances are scheduled for Friday, August 17, and Saturday, August 18, with a matinee Sunday, August 19.

During the rehearsal last week, a member of the cast, Dawn Hamelink, fell and severely injured her arm, but being the trooper Ms. Hamelink is, she announced "the show must go on" (in this case, she will go on with her role in the play).

Plans for Happy Apple Day Saturday, September 15, are well under way. Plans this year are for a bigger event, involving more of the community. That particular weekend will be the performance of "Mark Twain," starring DeTour's own Roger Norton and other DeTour residents.

On the calendar for this coming weekend Friday, August 17, is a fish fry planned by the Bender- Johnson Raber AMVETS and the Auxiliary, of Goetzville. The dinner will be at the Raber Township Hall on M-48 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Cost of the meal is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 10, and no cost for children 5 and younger.

Food for thought: How come some lemonade is flavored with artificial lemon, while furniture polish and dish soap are made with real lemon?
